Lessons are held weekly or bi-weekly for either a half hour or hour long session and are tailored to each student. Every Student has a binder for lessons to hold assignment sheets, practice records and goal-setting charts.
Brass Lessons: Materials will cover warm-up exercises; scales; etude books such as Arban's Complete Method, Clarke's Technical Studies, Schlossberg's Daily Drills, Brandt's 34 Studies, Bitsch's Vingt Etudes, Charlier's 36 Etudes Transcendantes, Bai Lin's Lip Flexibilities, J.S. Bach's Cello Suites Transcribed and Edited for Solo Trumpet and Carmine Caruso's Calisthenics for Wind Studies; and solos for solo festivals and recitals.
Woodwind Lessons: Materials will cover warm-up exercises; scales; etude books specific to the instrument; and solos for solo festivals and recitals.
Piano Lessons: The curriculum for piano lessons combines practicing out of the Bastien series; which includes a technic, piano and performance book. The PIano adventures series is also used. Students work on a solo each semester. Music theory is also taught through scale, arpeggio and chord practice.
Voice Lessons: Everyone has the natural ability to sing; every person and every voice type represents a unique instrument. A variety of methods are used and tailored to each individual student.
Percussion Lessons: Warm-up exercises, rudiments, scales, and basic beats and fills are covered. Beginning books include the Alfred's Beginning Snare Drum and Drumset books. Additional etudes and solo pieces are added for reading and technique.
POSSIBLE Recitals INCLUDE:
* A Halloween Recital at the Iowa City Public Library during the month of October.
* A Christmas Recital at a local church during the month of December.
* A Spring Recital at the Iowa City Public Library during the month of May.
